Safer in the Street
‘Safer in the Street’ is an innovative new approach to teaching young people self defence techniques. This approach draws on their existing understanding of how to stay safe and then expand outwards from this base.
This approach allows young people to share their experience and learn from each other as well as the Academy of Self Defence skilled instructors.
The young people act out scenarios from real life examples and learn to adapt their behaviour to to suit the circumstances.
The dramaturgical approach allows for the development of linguistic skills, facework and non verbal language. Often the effective use of these skills can diffuse and deflect unwanted aggression, indeed our intellect has developed over thousands of years and is vital to our survival. However, we all know that there are times when we need more primeval methods to guarantee our safety and in extreme cases our survival.
That is why we also teach how to identify potential dangers, what strategies will be employed to get into your safety zone and equip participants with street real effective physical techniques to repell unwanted aggressors.
The Academy of Self Defence aims to position itself at the very forefront of developments in the delivery of self defence training. With the creation of ‘Safer in the Street’ we feel we are ahead of the pack.
